Professional writers include those who write in the workplace (engineers, accountants, managers, computer programmers, teachers) as well as those who write as their profession (grant writers, creative writers, technical writers).
Professional Writing (LANG 354) is taught in the spring semester, and is a class designed for students in all majors. Students get a chance to research language conventions and types of writing particular to their discipline, make professional connections in their intended career, and produce job materials or graduate school materials.
Most often, Professional Writing partners with a local nonprofit to write one or more grants during the semester. Thus far, we’ve written $111,000 in grants and received $9,100. Our community partners include Brother Wolf, Madison County High School teachers, Word on the Street / La Voz de les Jóvenes, and Burton Street Community Peace Gardens.
