UNCA’s Writing Program offers students wanting additional support for LANG 120 a 1-hour companion course, LANG 110. This course has no additional assignments, but rather provides students time, space, and guidance to work through LANG 120 assignments. Students interested in enrolling in LANG 110 should talk with their LANG 120 instructors.
Course Description
LANG 110 is a 1-credit course designed to supplement student learning in LANG 120 and strengthen writing skills. It is an elective course in which students will receive individualized attention, feedback, and instruction specific to assignments in LANG 120. No additional papers will be assigned. For that reason, students should bring all LANG 120 materials to both their 110 class meetings and Writing Center sessions. LANG 110 is graded on a pass/fail (Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory) basis, independent of the LANG 120 grade.
Students will conference with the instructor 2-3 times, initially to identify concerns, goals, and priorities for their support; students will also meet with a specified writing center consultant 4-5 times. Students achieve a grade of “Satisfactory” in LANG 110 by:
- keeping track of their progress and weekly attendance, missing no more than one scheduled meeting with instructor or assigned Writing Center consultant, and
- bringing all LANG 120 materials to both classes and Writing Center sessions, including all drafts of papers, readings, and any assignment sheets or other documents received from their LANG 120 instructor.
